Questions & answers
What we're often asked.
Veneers
How long do non-prep veneers last?
With correct care and regular check-ups, non-prep ceramic veneers typically last 10 to 15 years, often considerably longer. Like any product they undergo daily wear, and after this span the wish for renewal can arise.
Is the treatment painful?
Non-prep veneers require no grinding of tooth structure. The procedure is therefore painless and does not require anaesthesia.
Can non-prep veneers be removed again?
Because the non-prep technique leaves the natural tooth structure untouched, removal is theoretically possible without damaging the tooth.
Do veneers discolour over time?
High-grade ceramic does not darken and does not discolour from coffee, tea or tobacco. The transitions between veneer and tooth are bonded so precisely that no visible marginal gaps form.
Veneer or bleaching?
Non-prep veneers can change the tooth colour far more decisively than bleaching. Bleaching only lightens within the tooth's natural range, and not all teeth respond equally. For deep, dark discolourations a veneer is the better option.
What do non-prep veneers cost?
Cost depends on the individual scope and the number of shells required. After the initial consultation you receive a written treatment and cost plan setting out every step and fee.
Implants
How long does an implant treatment take?
The implantation itself usually takes no longer than 30 minutes per jaw — for a single implant often under 5 minutes, because the procedure is planned on the computer in advance and the guide transfers the plan 1:1. The subsequent healing phase typically lasts around 4 months. From implantation to the final restoration you should therefore plan at least 4 months; with more extensive preparation such as a bone augmentation, the total can extend to 10 or 12 months.
Is placing an implant painful?
Thanks to computer-navigated, template-guided placement the procedure is minimally invasive. Access to the bone is either through a punch in the gum or a small incision — without the wide flap and bone exposure used in classical implantology. A suture is usually not required. Most patients report markedly less discomfort than after a tooth extraction.
How long does an implant last?
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups an implant is a long-term restoration. Implants with a ceramised surface support biocompatibility and long-term safety.
Are same-day implants possible?
A template-guided implantation on the same day as the first examination is not the standard case. The surgical guide is calculated from the digital planning and 3D-printed at the lab; it is available no earlier than the next day. Immediate implantation is possible but must be planned in advance.
Which crowns are placed on dental implants?
Typically full-ceramic crowns made of zirconium dioxide: high-strength, metal-free and tooth-coloured. The crowns are individually fabricated in an Austrian master laboratory and are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth in shape, colour and light dynamics. For multiple gaps, implant-supported bridges are used. In an edentulous jaw there are two options: a complete fixed zirconium full-arch restoration screwed onto the implants, or bars serving as stable anchorage for a removable denture. For crowning individual front teeth as well, full ceramic offers the most natural aesthetics.
How biocompatible are dental implants?
Titanium allergies as such do not exist. The 10-year survival rate of titanium implants established in long-term studies worldwide is around 98%. In rare cases the immune system can react excessively — this predisposition can be clarified in advance, if needed, with a special blood test (titanium stimulation test and determination of the individual genetic tendency toward inflammation). In such cases zirconium implants are used instead.
Are dental implants possible in advanced age?
Yes. Implantation is generally possible even in patients over 80. Long-standing tooth loss accelerates bone loss in the jaw; implants stabilize the bone structure and allow fixed restorations instead of a removable denture.
Anxious patients
Is treatment under general anaesthesia available?
Yes. For pronounced anxiety, general anaesthesia is possible. As a rule, however, even severely anxious patients can be treated at this practice without anaesthesia — and anaesthesia itself carries risks. An extensive restoration also requires several sessions, which under general anaesthesia would mean a separate anaesthetic each time.
Do you offer nitrous oxide?
Nitrous oxide is not used at this practice. Even with pronounced anxiety, treatment is usually possible without anaesthesia; where general anaesthesia helps, it is available with an external anaesthesiology team.
What happens at the first appointment?
The first appointment is a consultation: you describe your situation and your wishes, and we discuss the dental starting point and possible treatment paths. A thorough consultation is itself a dental service and is charged. Any invasive treatment, if medically appropriate, takes place at a later appointment.
General
Do you offer a free initial consultation?
No. A thorough consultation is itself a dental service and may not be provided free of charge under the rules of the Austrian Dental Chamber. At this practice the consultation is therefore charged, and forms the basis of a binding treatment and cost plan.
What do public health insurers cover?
Aesthetic and implant restorations such as veneers, ceramic crowns and implant-supported bridges are private services in Austria. As a Wahlarzt practice we issue an invoice that you can submit to your health insurer; reimbursement depends on tariff and treatment.
Is payment by instalments available?
Instalment payments are not offered directly at this practice. Financing is possible via zahnkredit.at, a provider specialised in dental treatments.
How do I get to the practice?
The practice is located in the Tuchlauben in Vienna's 1st district, a few steps from Stephansplatz. By public transport: Stephansplatz (U1/U3) or Schottentor (U2). Underground garages and short-term parking are nearby.
